Why The Juice Bar is a Must-Visit on Nantucket

My family and I have been traveling to Nantucket every summer for as long as I can remember. There are so many different ice cream shops peppering the island, but one in particular has always been my favorite: The Juice Bar. As soon as you step off the ferry and onto Nantucket, the first smell that hits you, besides the fresh sea air, is a sugary smell wafting through the streets. As you approach the source of that delicious aroma, you’ll find yourself standing before the small, gray ice cream shop. If you get there at the right time, the wait time is not too bad. But if you were to arrive in the evening, especially after dinner, you may find yourself waiting in a queue winding down the street. No matter how long the line is, it is always worthwhile.

As you inch forward in the snaking line, you’ll have the opportunity to read over the expansive menu and all The Juice Bar has to offer.  Personally, my favorite flavor is coconut (pictured above). It’s rich, creamy, and speckled with real shredded coconut, which is so refreshing on a warm summer day.

Another one of my favorites to order is the Brownie A La Mode. It is just plain vanilla ice cream with pieces of baked brownie mixed within. Paired with one of their homemade waffle cones, it is absolutely delicious. I usually go for a single scoop. The portions are generous, and it’s just enough to create the perfect cone-to-ice-cream ratio. My favorite part of eating this deliciousness is the softened cone base. By the time you reach the bottom of your cone, it has gotten to the perfect texture, almost melting in your mouth as you bite into it.

The Juice Bar also offers a waffle bowl, which is a great choice, especially during the sweltering heat of the summer. Like a regular bowl, it keeps your ice cream contained while also giving you that sweet waffle cone experience. The best of both worlds.

I once ordered the blackberry ice cream with chocolate chips on top, which reminded me of my favorite flavor, black raspberry chip (which they, unfortunately, don’t carry). I will tell you, it most definitely did not disappoint. Similar to eating out of the come, the best part was the end when the waffle bowl started to absorb the blackberry taste. I enjoyed this flavor a lot because it didn’t feel as heavy as some of the other options and leaves you feeling refreshed.

So, if you ever find yourself on Nantucket in search of a sweet treat, I would one hundred percent recommend you try out The Juice Bar. I promise, you will not be disappointed.
